0 UEFA champions league draw: Why Manchester City group is the group of death?

Manchester City has been drawn alongside Bayern Munich, Villarreal and Napoli in Group A for champions league in group stage. In Group C Manchester United, the last season UEFA champions league’s finalist will start their campaign in same group as Benfica, FC Basel and Romanian minnows Otelul Galati. The Red Devils had brilliant performance last season but suffered 3-1 to Barcelona at Wembley stadium and a set to top this group.

Doubtfull Arsenal in a tricky group after knocking out Udinese
In Group F, Arsenal has been drawn in a tricky group with the Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund, Marseille and Olympiakos. Arsenal finished fourth in Premier league and had to overcome Udinese in play-off match, thanks to Theo Walcott goals in first and second leg matches. The Emirates club saw its Captain Cesc Fabregas, shinning midfielder Sami Nasri, left back Gael Clichy leaving for highly competitive teams.

In Group G, the last year Europa and Portugal champions, Porto was drawn as a top seed with Shakhtar Donetsk from Ukraine, Russia side Zenit St Petersburg and APOEL from Cyprus. AVB's former club will have tough season to prove its ability in champions league football. At the end of champions league draw, journalist voted for the best Europe player among Lionel Messi, Xavi both from Barcelona and Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid striker. It wasn’t surprising that all three nominees are playing in La liga. Lionel Messi was voted the UEFA best player and became the first player to have won that award.

0 Carling cup second round draw: Liverpool away at Exeter, Everton face Sheffield United

The second round carling cup fixtures took Liverpool to League One club; Exeter while their rivals, Everton will start the campaign at home by facing Sheffield United. The Carling cup second round draw have been scheduled to start on the week commencing 22 August 2011. The 7 times Carling cup champions; Liverpool will be coming from premier league match against Arsenal at Emirates stadium, scheduled on 20 August 2011. Most of first team Liverpool player might be rested for this tie. The eight premier league club taking part in Champions league or Europa cup will join league cup on third round. The Carling cup competition involve 20 premier league clubs and 72 clubs from football league. The new starting season is going to be very competitive and Carling cup will be more vital cup as a winner will qualify for UEFA Europa League if has not qualify through premier league and not won FA cup.

Carling cup rules, unlike FA cup, only one match will be played, draw match will be decided on extra time and penalty shoot-out. Liverpool FC needs to try and finish the game during 90 minutes or even at extra time to avoid embarrassment they suffered last season after being knocked out by Northampton in third round. Liverpool have strengthen their squad by signing Charles Adam, Alexander Doni, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson and hope to perform better this season.
In the last Carling cup match, Sheff Wed beat Blackpool 4-2 on penalty after 0-0 score in 120 minutes and they will play Blackburn on second round.
